finally!! ALL THE 3 TESTS ARE OVER! (: tomorrow will be the last day of the 9 day package. and here comes my holiday.. BUT BUT .. this is the last day for blogging! (:

i am able to refer to this blog next time, imagine 5 or 10 years later when i come back to this blog, the first think i will ask myself is: "how far have i grow throughout the years?"

conclusion of the day: today we are suppose to complete our portfolio which files up all the work that we have done throughout the whole package. there is a lot for us to do if we did not complete the assignment on time everyday. i think that we should not pile up our work, especially for this blog activity. for me, i have to update everyday because i have a poor memory. even for other work that we are suppose to do, we should never bring them forward.

before i ends today's entry i would like to thanks ms lim, ms farida and all my classmates!

ms lim help us discover our strengths, although she just taught us for 3 days. she is humorous! (:

ms farida makes lessons interesting, the things that we don't understand, she explained patiently to ask us using different methods. she gives us time to complete our work. to conclude, she is very understanding!

today we have done alot! (:

we got to discuss about Youtube in our group. the 3 main questions we discuss about are why Youtube has been so popular?, how can we deal with the downsides of Youube?, and also what is the future of Youtube? i never knew much about Youtube until today. the advantages and the restrictions that Youtube has. in our group we get to share our knowledge about Youtube. i like working in a group because i can interact and learn from my group members. From sharing, more knowledge are spread across, thus i think that it is a very useful medium to learn more.

let's talk about talkingcock.com. yes! from this "talkingcock.com", we knew that this is a website about something but definitely not anything serious. it's an entertainment website, they entertain users with current news which are wrote in a funny way. again this webite has it's good side and bad side which we may consider when evaluating it. whats attractive about this site is that they entertain people with certain issues that are really happening in Singapore that we may not have notice it. this site may not be pleasing for a foreigner to see. it hows the ugly side of Singaporean which may give a bad impression of Singapore.

Conclusion of the day: Youtube is a medium where all kinds of video are uploaded. the video clip, "we live in singapura" is very creative, its something like talkingcock.com. it's true! but some people may have blindfolded it. it shows us the way Singaporeans are living, their lifestyle which make us different from other countries. lastly, i would like to commend on INTERNET. you can never imagine how wide and useful it is. can we live without it?

it's E-LEARNING for today. means that there is no school. sleep late, go shopping, do anything you want at home but just remember to finish your work.

i have experienced e-learning back in my secondary school. the workload that we are assigned are far too much. however for this e-learning, we are given acceptable amount of work for us to complete on time. in my point of view, i think that having e-learning or going to school for lessons are fine. both have their advantages and disadvantages.

advantages: freedom!
disadvantages: cannot clear any doubts straightaway!

conclusion of the day: i think that the invention of e-learning is creative, students are able to experience the different way of studying. it also exposed them to dependent studying. i went shopping today, but i finished my WIKI. (:

i know it's weird to place this music player here, but its the only place. enjoy the songs above! (:

"WIKI" is very commonly see in my lecture notes and hear from Ms Farida, however didn't really knows how it works. it is a collaborative website whose content can be edited by anyone who has access to it. today, i finally got a chance to really get to work on it. when you sign up into that wiki then you are able to do anything within it. we must be responsible for what we do. what if person A wrote all his information inside, and person B deleted his work. then all his hard work has been wasted. again its an issue about TRUST!

Conclusion of the day: in my own opinion, Wiki is a good way for group projects when team members may not be free to meet up, the can use this application to complete their project work. Members could add or remove informations appropriately until it is perfect to hand up. of course, we must be careful and make sure that these information cannot be corrupter by other members in Wiki.

when i complete doing the report on the comparison of the search facilities, it was already 3am. i slept for 4 hours and... my vision was blurr when i woke up... RED EYES! during lessons i was extremely tired, naturally my eyes wanted to close, but my brain say: NO! let me share with you a secret here. i HAVE NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER sleep in class before. because it's rude!

in life, we may experience some pressure at times, from school, family or other factors from our environment. a deadline may cause pressure too . BUT having pressure can be an advantage for us to do even better. it helps us to push to our limit and achieve better results.

in order to choose the most approporiate internet resource to search for information for our topic, we must spend some time to evaluate it. to be clear of the purpose, coverage, authority, accuracy, currency, accessibilty, presentation and arrangement, usability and of course the overall impression of the website.

from this practical, i learn how to i choose the most approriate internet resource to use, since there are many factors to consider. CHOICE! is always what you have to make in your daily life, the route that you choose to walk to school, the people you choose to talk to, the amount of effort you choose to put in in your work, the food that you choose to eat during your meals, and so on... they are little little choices that you have to make, and of course you do not have to evaluate them... but what about the BIG choices that you make in your life? for example, which tertiary school do you want to go ? a Polytechnic? a Junior College? maybe we must spend some time evaluating them. looking at their advantage and disadvantage and whether this route really suits you...

so we should always choose our choices wisely! (:

today's focus is on ... ... ... SEARCH FACILITIES!

i always use Yahoo! and Google for any of my research. i find out that there are more search facilities for me to choose from such as Meta Crawler, Yahoo Directory, Galaxy and lots more. the way how we search our selected topic varies. knowing the right way to search for information in search facilities is very important as it will result in our final product.

the 3 main search facilities are:

search engine , meta search engine and subject directory.

the 3 of them have there "pull" and "push" factors. i can only say that it is dependable on the topic that we are researching about.

Human invent computers and use them, but computers seemed to be as SMART as a human's brain. Search engines are compiled by computers while directories are compiled by humans. What humans are able to do, computers are also able to accomplish and maybe complete in a shorter time. HUMAN BRAIN = COMPUTER! AMAZING RIGHT ?

boolean operators were fun.. they help us to retrieve the more relevant informations in the search facilities. the AND, OR, NOT is fun. they are something similiar the sets chapter of amaths. but unfortunately, it only works well in a search engine.

conclusion of the day:

i am starting to LOVE this CDS since the knowledge that i learn can be apply very oftenly and it will be so useful to me when i am doing my research for any project work. so... what am i going to learn tomorrow ? (:

after a day, there is still no reply from Drugs.com (forum). i seach many many many discussion boards, and register in many many many forums. and guess what? some no reply, some cannot even create a new post, some can't even find the discussion board even when it is stated there that there is one. however this doesn't stop me from searching for more forums, and my efforts did paid off!

i found this very useful forum (http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/index.php) at last.

i posted up a new thread (http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=7210470#post7210470).

i said that this is a very useful because in 10 mins time, i got a reply, in another 1 hr time, another reply was up. so i thought this is a very interactive forum especially when you need an answer urgently.

conclusion for the day: I feel that alot of trust is needed in the internet . like Wiki, it is a "open-editing" system, where anyone can edit, remove, or add any information . We must be responsible for our actions! RSS feed was amazing. i always saw "RSS feed" in webs, but i never bother to find out about it. i am so lucky to be able to do this CDS, if not i will be outdated! however in my opinion, i don't really like to use RSS feeds because of its format. i prefer looking at the real web itself without any modifications. however there is one thing that i must mention about RSS, it really loads faster, since less things are needed to upload. in addiction i realise that we really got to care about our surroundings. only when we care, we will discover more. for example, the "RSS feed", if i really care when i saw it in the web, i should have already research on it and know it even before this lecture.

Activity 1 (discussion forum, electronic journals and magazine)

after completing activity 1, i learnt how to search for the 3 internet resources and describe them too.

my research topic: (14) Discuss on the impact of drugs on youths.

in my own opinion, i feel that there must be a reason for these youths to abuse drugs. it can be bacause of peer pressure, poor family background, and many other reasons. i want to research on the impact of abusing youths to bring the important messages across to youths how harmful and dangerous DRUGS can be. since they are so young, they should have a brighter future instead of suffering from the impacts of drugs.

final conclusion of the day: 1st day of this CDS... i always feel that internet is just a simple tool to deal with when we need informations or for playing games. only until today, i realise that its so much complicated. there is so much things for us to do using the internet. its more than a place for us to research on topics, its actually a place for us to interact with people of different interest indirectly. if we learn the correct way to use internet as a research tool, in detail, i think that we will find it even more useful than before. i look forward to learn more new knowledge for the following days, because i believe that it will be a very useful source for my research in future, thus it will be an advantage for me to grab hold of these skills. in addiction, i think that this 9 day package is very well-planned. after the lecture, we are asked to complete practicals. this allows us to experience it REAL, rather than just taking in infomation and not trying it out. thats all for today .
